Gecko Glass

Gecko Glass is the creation of Josh Wills. Josh started flame working at the age of sixteen as a means of relaxing during revision for exams. Josh's fascination with the flame led him to start working with borosilicate (pyrex) glass - and the captivating alchemy of borosilicate striking colours. With names such as Triple Passion, Havana Moon Lite and Loki's Lipstick....who could resist? Borosilicate glass requires a greater degree of heat to work it than soft glass, working at temperatures of up to 2000 degrees centigrade. Unlike bead making Josh works off mandrel, only using glass rod to make his pendants, and it can take hours to make some of the intricate designs.

Fuming the glass involves using a piece of pure silver or 22 carat gold in the flame to create fabulous colours within the clear glass or enhance other colours.

Although mainly self taught, Josh did a master class with Julie Anne Denton and at the 2008 International Festival of Glass he was a student on Shane Fero's master class. In 2009 he travelled to Salem College in New Jersey for the International Flame working conference and met some renowned flame working artists such as Paul Stankard, Milon Townsend and Robert Mickelson. He also visited San Francisco and did a master class with Scott Deppe. Josh also makes stunning marbles, and we will up load some photos of these as soon as possible. Each one of Josh's pendants is an entirely unique piece of art - a delight to wear - tactile and beautiful.

 Flameworked Pendants

Each of the pendants described below are made from borosilicate colours which alter during flame working and then change again when they are struck in the kiln. Two pendants made of the same colour glass may in reality be quite different shades because each firing schedule differs. Where the colour is named with capitals it is the name of the glass used rather than a description of the actual colour of the pendant.
